SOUTH INDIA- a trip for men and women.

Visit India in the company of Ganga Powell who originally comes from Chennai (Madras) but who now lives in Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia.

Ganga will lead this tour and introduce participants to 'her' India.

Di will also accompany the tour.

Ganga's love of history and culture will be the strength of this trip, and she will guide us to the best sari shops and craft markets as well. We will also enjoy some time out for traditional massage and beauty treatments. Below is the wonderful itinerary which Ganga and Di have devised (mainly Ganga!). The trip will go ahead in Febuary 2008, and firm dates and costs will be available soon.

DAY 01: Wednesday February 6th 2008
Depart Melbourne 1050
Arrive Chennai 2200
Transfer to hotel.

DAY 02: Thursday 7th February 2008
Chennai (L & D)  
Leisurely morning. Proceed for lunch at Radhakrishnas (Indian host family. Sabita Radhkrishna is a cookery writer ( and Ganga's cousin!).This will include in introduction to how South Indians live and South Indian cooking. After lunch proceed to visit Banyan Tree and Theosophical Society. This is one of the largest trees in the world, it measures 238ft from north to south and 250ft from east to west. The total area exceeds 59,500 sq ft. This tree is a unique specimen. It has been the centre of many notable gatherings of the Theosophical Society Then shop at Fab India.
Evening drive past Temple in Mylapore, San Thome Cathedral(short stop) and Marina beach (stop and stroll).
Return to Hotel, dinner at Hotel.

DAY 03:Friday, 8th February 2008
CHENNAI (BLD)
Breakfast at Hotel.
Morning proceed to Fort St. George. Morning at Fort St. George. Lunch at the Karaikudi Restaurant located at Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai. Back to Hotel for afternoon rest.Late afternoon proceed with sightseeing tour of city, which will include driving along Anna Salai, Rajaji Hall Law Courts, old Lighthouse, Museum complex and a visit to the Museum bronzes/ or Art Gallery.
